Stop for private gourmet refreshments near Tamchog Lhakhang and enjoy an exclusive walk across its 15th-century iron chain bridge, hand-forged by Saint Thangtong Gyalpo. Upon arrival in Thimphu, check into your ultra-luxury villa at Six Senses Thimphu (the “Palace in the Sky”).

Evening: Unwind with a personalized wellness consultation at the lodge spa. At dusk, gather at the lodge’s reflective pavilion for a private butter lamp lighting ceremony and chanting session with a resident monk, watching the lights of the capital twinkle below.

Day 2 – Thimphu: Private Sanctuaries & Monastic Audiences

Morning: Start your morning early with a private drive up to Buddha Dordenma, a massive 51.5-meter gilded bronze statue, before it opens to the public. Enjoy a private meditation session led by a senior monk inside the monument’s cavernous inner chapel. Afterward, join local elders for a walk around the rhythmic National Memorial Chorten.

Afternoon: Visit the forested Motithang Takin Preserve for a private viewing of Bhutan’s unusual national animal. Skip the public restaurants for an exclusive interactive culinary masterclass at a private estate, learning the art of traditional Bhutanese dining from a regional chef. Spend your late afternoon browsing fine antique textiles during a closed-door meeting with a local collector.

Evening: Enjoy a private, after-hours tour of Tashichho Dzong, the magnificent fortress housing the royal throne room and government seats, exploring its grand courtyards right as the evening lights turn on. Conclude with a multi-course seasonal tasting menu at your lodge.

Day 3 – Thimphu → Punakha Valley via Dochula Pass

Your route climbs steadily up to the magnificent Dochula Pass (3,100 m), where 108 memorial chortens frame an uninterrupted view of the snow-capped Eastern Himalayan range. Enjoy a private hot butter tea service at a secluded vantage point away from the main lookout.

Afternoon: Descend 1,700 meters into the warm, subtropical valley of Punakha. Check into your luxury pool villa at Pemako Punakha or Amankora Punakha. After a light lunch, take an unhurried walk through the rice paddies of Sopsokha village to Chimi Lhakhang (the Fertility Temple), where a resident monk will share the inner folklore of the eccentric saint Lama Drukpa Kunley.

Evening: Return to your sanctuary to relax. Enjoy a private evening wine tasting featuring select international vintages paired with artisanal Himalayan cheeses on your villa’s outdoor deck.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner  |  Overnight: Punakha (Pemako Punakha or Amankora Punakha)

Day 4 – Punakha: Palace Exploration & Riverside Champagne Picnic

Morning: Dedicate your morning to exploring the architectural masterpiece of Punakha Dzong, widely considered the most beautiful fortress in Bhutan. Your scholar guide will lead you through its private, intricate inner courtyards closed to standard tour groups. Afterward, take a scenic walk across the adjacent Punakha Suspension Bridge, draped in thousands of rustling prayer flags.

Afternoon: Escape the midday heat for a private curated champagne picnic along the pristine shores of the Mo Chhu river. Spend your afternoon taking a gentle uphill walk through pine-scented paths to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a stunning pagoda built by the Queen Mother that offers the finest panoramic view of the valley’s emerald terraces.

Afternoon: Enjoy a private tour of Ta Dzong (the National Museum), housed in a historic circular watchtower, before taking a private stroll through the grand courtyards of Rinpung Dzong. Undertake a privately paced trek to Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), clinging precariously to a vertical granite cliff face 900 meters above the valley floor. Your guide will lead you to a quiet, lesser-known meditation viewpoint located just above the main complex for a moment of silent reflection.
